No coffee? Are you crazy?
As promised I stood to my 7 days no coffee challenge and actually made it for 9 days. The process was much easier than I thought! All I needed was proper preparation to substitute my daily dose of coffee with something that would still keep me awake…Enter Matcha smoothies!
I haven’t invented the wheel when I discovered how toxic coffee can be. I understand and talked to many coffee lovers and they always say it depends on the quality of coffee – which I agree 100%. But if you are like me and want to avoid heartburns, bloated tummies and constant need for another cup of coffee you might want to limit or decrease your daily intake.
A super healthier alternative is Matcha tea. ( I am not an expert on this so you might want to consult your dietitian!) Matcha is a delicate ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Therefore it contains many antioxidants and most importantly caffeine. The way your body processes caffeine from Matcha v Coffee, however, is uber beneficial since it releases it slowly giving you more energy throughout your day and avoids sudden drops of energy.
So here’s a list of noticeable changes during the past 9 days:
- Never felt the sudden drop in energy levels which usually took place 3-4 hours after my morning coffee.
- Had limited to zero heartburns.
- Had zero extra bloating in my belly
- Saved (minimum) 2euros a day
- The idea of performing my morning matcha-smoothie-making ritual excited me the night before!
- Became conscious of also what I eat so eating healthier was a very welcome knock-on effect.
Having experienced all the above does not make me anticoffee! I will definitely enjoy a cup every now and then. But, I will certainly not return to the daily habit of grabbing a quick fix in the morning. Like most things in life, great things take more time, and a matcha smoothie takes more time than a frappe if you know what I mean 😉
Oh, and here is my matcha smoothie recipe:
1 tea spoon of matcha tea
1 tea spoon of honey
1 tea spoon of seeds
